The City of Dumas is located on U.S. Highway 65, in the southeast corner of Arkansas
deep in the Arkansas Delta, is a community of rich agricultural resources, industry and
abundant outdoor recreation. Industries in Dumas and the surrounding area produce
a variety of produce including: fish and dog food, furniture, electrical wiring, auto
ignition harnesses, tractor/trailer slides, ice merchandisers, wire products, commercial
steel buildings, cotton module trailers, pottery.
Agricultural industries include a USDA cotton classing facility, Dumas Cotton
Warehouse, Riceland Food, Inc. which includes Pendleton Export Terminal and
Riceland Grain Drying Cooperative, Dumas Cotton Gin and numerousgrain dryers
and fresh fish farms.
Social and cultural opportunities in Dumas include: the annual Ding Dong Days
Festival which is held the last weekend in July of each year; the Dumas Area Arts
Center sponsors many events during the year including a Musical Production during
Ding Dong Days. Main Street Dumas has an office in the Chamber of Commerce
Building and features activities in October. The Desha County Museum is a must
see located on Highway 165. Everyone joins in the Downtown Christmas Parade
and Tree Lighting at Delta Memorial Hospital. Pendleton Ferry is located just
outside of Dumas on the Arkansas River and be sure and visit Arkansas Post
Memorial Park, which is located just across the River. The fishing and hunting is
great in our area.
The North Central accredited Dumas School District is composed of four campuses:
Dumas High School (10-12), Dumas Junior High (7-9), Reed Elementary (2-6), and
Central Elementary (K-1).
